It's really hard to believe at times just how many years have passed since Garage became a much-loved genre.

Garage music, specifically UK garage, emerged as a distinct genre in the early to mid-1990s from styles like house music, R&B, and jungle.

It gained traction through UK pirate radio stations, with artists like DJ EZ and Artful Dodger leading it to mainstream success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. 

UK garage developed from American garage house music and influenced by house, techno, and hip-hop.

In the early 1980s, a commercial form of jazz fusion called smooth jazz became successful, garnering significant radio airplay. Other styles and genres abound in the 21st century, such as Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz.
